There's no getting around it: at 60, you have more mature skin than at 20. With age, it loses elasticity, becomes a bit drier and thinner and -offcourse- wrinkles appear. Your eyelids droop and your lips become thinner. No big deal: age is just a number! No reason to ban makeup. On the contrary, the right products work wonders.
Foundation for mature skin
- Apply a light primer to prepare your skin for makeup.
- A thick, matte foundation creeps into your skin's fine lines and pores faster, accentuating them and dulling your complexion. No thank you! Do: a light, very fluid formula with a dewy finish (helló healthy glow!) and extra caring ingredients.
- Choose 👏 the 👏 right 👏 color! With younger skin, you can just about get away with foundation one shade too dark, but that's really a big no-no with mature skin. Too dark foundation makes you look duller, more tired and older.
- The way you apply foundation also makes a difference. Use a small amount and take the time to massage it in with your fingers, a round brush with airy bristles or a beauty blender. That way, the product melts into your skin and doesn't stay on it like a mask. Do you still see imperfections? Then apply a second layer of foundation locally.

Blush for mature skin
- With mature skin, you prefer to choose a peachy or brownish-pink blush if you suffer from rosacea or get red easily.
- Does your redness show through quickly? No worries: just use that as natural blush, by applying none or less foundation where you would normally put blush.

Eye makeup for mature skin
- Put a light (shimmery) eyeshadow on your moving eyelid. Preferably choose cream eyeshadow: it stays on better and is less likely to accumulate in the creases of your skin.
- The big ailment of mature skin: overhanging eyelids. The cure: apply eye makeup with your eyes open! Put a darker matte eyeshadow color in your arcade arch while looking straight ahead in the mirror. Now tilt your head back, put a reclining V in the outer corner of your eye and blur the color.
- Always make sure your eye is optically lifted. We don't like droopy eyes 😉 So stay within the imaginary line between your outer corner of your eye and the tip of your eyebrow.
- Curl your lashes before applying mascara. This will elevator your eyes.
- Thinning eyebrows look fuller with some brow powder. Fill in empty spots by touching up hairs with an eyebrow pencil.
